TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing
The Colorado Rapids have acquired winger Akol Akon from A-League side Sydney FC, the club announced Monday.
The 17-year-old Australian youth international will join Colorado in July 2027. He is under contract through 2030-31 with an option for 2031-32.
"Akol is a player who has shown both uncommon physical and competitive maturity in his performances in the A-League," said Rapids sporting director Fran Taylor.
"At just 17, he is already making an impact for Sydney FC, and we believe a player with his mentality can achieve his considerable potential."
Akon has contributed seven assists in 20 appearances (all competitions) since debuting for Sydney FC in August 2025.
Internationally, Akon has logged eight appearances for Australia's U-17s and featured at the 2025 AFC U-17 Asian Cup.
"Akol is a young player with a lot of potential," said Rapids head coach Matt Wells. "We are already a very young group, so this is another addition of a young player with all of his best years ahead of him. Once he is within our environment, we will be able to develop him in line with our adventurous style of play."
Last year, Colorado signed another A-League player to a pre-contract: then-18-year-old defender Lucas Herrington.
Over a half-season, Herrington went on to represent Australia at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, earn MLS All-Star honors and secure a club-record transfer (reportedly up to $23 million) to English Premier League side Hull City.
